1. Sebagai kata sifat dan berfungsi menerangkan kata benda dengan makna “untuk” atau “ yang sedang”

Contoh : Writing book

Walking stick

Sleeping baby

2. Perfect Participle (mengandung makna “seteah”)

Contoh : Having submitted his paper, the student went back to the library.

3. Passive Present Participle (mengandung makna “karena”)

Contoh : He wasn’t asked to take on the chairmanship, being considered insufficiently popular with all members.

4. Passive Perfect Participle (mengandung makna “setelah”)

Contoh : Having been told about the bad weather, the climbers decided to put off their plan to the mountain.

5. Unrelated participle ( mengandung makna “ketika”)

Contoh : He did quite well, taking everything into consideration

6. Stereotyped phrase (mengandung makna seperti ungkapan klise)

Contoh : Strictly speaking, the Isle of Man is not part of the United Kingdom

7. Force of preposition (Ving yang dapat digunakan sebagai sebuah kata depan)

Contoh : Regarding the question of absenteeism, a sense of responsibility seems to have been lacking insome workers.
